Fan Reviews (SPOILERS!!!)
Amanda's Review
Hey guys,
It's 3 am here in the United States and I'm sitting
here and about to give you my thoughts on the film. Even though you might not
care, I just want to do this anyway. I give it a 9.5 out of 10.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is by far the
best Harry Potter film released yet. It was a truly remarkable experience being
a Harry Potter fan. Let me just say this... David Yates is the best Harry Potter
director yet. Everything he did was wonderful and in this one you notice the
little things... from Harry's courage being the leader of Dumbledore's Army to
Neville's emotions when he hears about Bellatrix Lestrange to Professor
Umbridge's insanity to the awkwardness between the trio to the
transitions.... it was truly remarkable. David Yates did so well with this film
and he brought out everything important from the books. Even though there were no
Quidditch scenes or SPEW or Malfoy telling Harry he wanted revenge (something I
was really looking forward to actually); it seems as if he captured everything
else. It's something that none of the other Harry Potter film directors have
ever done.
This movie is everything that the cast said it would
be. I remember Daniel Radcliffe saying something about how this film is showing
Harry's perspective of his life and how some people thought that Harry was
annoying in this book. I remember it was an interview from one of the premieres,
but I'm not exactly sure which one. But the point is... Dan is absolutely
correct. One of the many reasons that his was not my favorite book was how
annoying Harry was and how he wanted to push everyone away from him including
Ron and Hermione, but I think the film portrayed both sides very well. At first
it was more, "Stop being a flipping idiot Harry" (yes that's what I said), but
by the end of it I realized I had cried 3 times for him and I wanted to tell him
that "everything is going to be alright." It was such an emotional journey for
him and this film shows it. I remember Emma Watson saying that Prisoner of
Azkaban was her favorite film, but she said she had changed her mind and now
this one is (this was at the Los Angeles premiere by the way). My favorite has
always been the Chamber of Secrets, but now it is Order of the Phoenix.
Now let me talk a little bit about the cast. First of
all, Daniel, Emma, and Rupert were amazing; they defiantly "stepped up a
notch" (as Daniel likes to say). Their performances were wonderful,
especially Daniel. I remember two scenes in particular... when Harry yells at
Dumbledore saying "look at me" and when Harry watches Sirius die. I can't even
describe how I feel seeing those scenes.; it made me love Harry so much more
than before. Emma and Rupert were both great; they captured their characters
very well. You can tell that the trio are no longer child actors. Oh my
goodness, I will never forget Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood, Imelda Staunton as
Professor Umbridge, and Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange. All the old
cast members, still wonderful as usual. They were definite highlights of the
movie. Cast so perfectly. Oh and of course, Bonnie Wright as Ginny Weasley,
James and Oliver Phelps as Fred and George Weasley, Matthew Lewis as Neville
Longbottom, and Katie Leung as Cho Chang. These guys were honestly up there with
Dan, Emma, and Rupert.
Let me say a few words about Harry Potter's awesome
sidekicks. Rupert Grint and Emma Watson did so well with Ron Weasley and
Hermione Granger. You could really feel the loyalty they have and that no matter
what they will always have Harry's side. Some scenes I might mention: Ron asking
if anyone's got a problem with Harry (just Rupert's face expression is
priceless) and Hermione urging Harry to warn Dumbledore about Umbridge. You can
feel their friendship; it's so powerful in this film and you know it's the thing
that saves Harry. On another note... For all those Ron and Hermione shippers,
this is THE movie for you. The entire movie is one big Ron and
Hermione scene; it's breath-taking. When Ron asks Hermione if she's alright and
when Ron tells Hermione that she's wonderful and, of course, when he gets
jealous of Grawp (Hargrid's half-brother). There are so many little things that
show up and since I'm a huge shipper for them, I was constantly smacking my
friend's arm (I do this every time I see a Ron and Hermione moment) and by the
time the movie ended, her arm is probably bruised for good. Also, there are some
Harry and Ginny moments in the film and yes very noticeable! There's a scene
when Hermione says that Cho couldn't keep her eyes off Harry, Ginny gives the
angriest look someone could possibly give. Another one is when Ginny sees Harry
staying behind to talk to Cho, she goes mad (the camera focuses on her for a
moment). Good film for One Big Happy Weasley Family fans.
I know I'm giving away a lot of the movie, so I'm going
to stop myself and delete the rest of my review until my final words. The
ending is remarkable. (just sticking that in there).
The only reason I didn't give the movie a 10 out of 10
is because I feel that it was a bit short. I mean I feel like that with most of
the films, but I do understand that a movie can only be so long. For what's
there, it's amazing (I know I've said that about a hundred times already). My
friend that doesn't read the books didn't exactly understand all of it, so it
might be best to read the book before you see the film. You should be reading
the books anyways! I'm defiantly going to go see it again and I already plan to
see it in IMAX theaters. So in my last words, ignore what those "real" reviews
because they are mostly always wrong anyways and see the movie for yourself.
Bring some tissues because it's such an emotional story for Harry and remember
to stay away from as many spoilers as possible. Harry Potter and the Order of
the Phoenix was probably my least favorite of the six books so far, but now I
can say that it's in my top three. This movie changed the way I feel about the
book; It was, yes, that good.
